RS 4 Mini — mirrorless travel gimbal

At under a kilogram, the DJI RS 4 Mini is the gimbal you will actually carry. It balances a full-frame mirrorless body with a compact zoom, switches to vertical in seconds and adds an intelligent tracking module for solo shooters. Payload is the constraint: 2 kg is fine for an a7 IV with a 20-70 f/4 but tight with an f/2.8 zoom and a monitor.

RS 4 — the workhorse for mirrorless

The DJI RS 4 adds a second-generation automated axis lock, a joystick that toggles between gimbal and zoom control, stronger motors and Bluetooth shutter control. At $318.98 it is the sensible choice for wedding, corporate and event shooters running one camera all day. The Combo adds the focus motor, briefcase handle and phone holder.

RS 5 — refined and current

The DJI RS 5 is the 2025 refresh of the RS 4 concept: quieter motors, quicker balancing, a built-in LiDAR focus motor interface and improved vertical mode. If you are buying new and have no accessories to carry over, the RS 5 at $392.78 is the one to get in this class.

RS 4 Pro — for cinema cameras and teams

The DJI RS 4 Pro exists for heavier rigs — Sony FX6, Canon C70, RED Komodo with cinema lenses — and for multi-operator shoots. Its motors hold 4.5 kg with monitors and wireless follow-focus attached, O3 Pro transmission sends a clean feed to a director's monitor and the LiDAR + Ronin hybrid autofocus keeps manual cinema glass sharp on moving subjects. Car-mount mode and the RS SDK matter for commercial and automotive work.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which RS gimbal do I need for a Sony a7 IV or Canon R6 with a 24-70 f/2.8?

That combination weighs roughly 1.5–1.7 kg, within the RS 4 Mini's 2 kg limit if you travel light, but the RS 4 or RS 5 (4.5 kg) gives balancing headroom for a monitor, microphone or heavier lens.

    What is native vertical shooting?

The RS 4, RS 4 Mini and RS 5 let you rotate the camera into portrait orientation directly on the quick-release plate without an accessory bracket — useful for social-first productions.

Is the RS 4 Pro worth the extra cost over the RS 4?

For cinema cameras and multi-operator setups, yes: stronger motors for 4.5 kg with accessories, O3 Pro video transmission, the LiDAR + Ronin hybrid autofocus system and car-mount mode. For a single mirrorless camera the RS 4 or RS 5 is enough.

Are DJI gimbals affected by the FCC Covered List?

The RS 4, RS 4 Mini, RS 4 Pro and RS 5 were all authorized before December 2025 and remain available in the US as of September 2026.
