Matrice 4T vs Matrice 30T vs Matrice 350 RTK: Choosing a DJI Inspection Drone

Thermal inspection used to require the Matrice 300 with an H20T payload — a $20,000+ system. Today DJI offers three tiers. This guide explains what you gain at each step and where the money is best spent.

Matrice 4T: the new default for inspection

The DJI Matrice 4T packs into a Mavic-sized body what previously required a Matrice 300 and a five-figure payload. The radiometric thermal camera, 112× hybrid zoom and laser rangefinder cover substation, solar-farm, roof and telecom-tower inspection; AI-assisted detection of people and vehicles helps in search and rescue. It is light enough for one operator to deploy from a truck in under two minutes and, with the RTK module, supports Smart 3D Capture for quick site models.

At $5,452.50 for the Plus Combo (with DJI Care Enterprise Plus), it is the platform we recommend to most first-time enterprise buyers.

    Matrice 30T: rugged all-weather workhorse

The DJI Matrice 30T is bigger and heavier than the M4T but rated to operate in rain and from −20 °C to 50 °C. Its 200× hybrid zoom outreaches the M4T for stand-off inspection of tall structures, and it integrates with DJI Dock 2 for automated missions. Choose it when the environment is harsh or when you want a dock-based routine inspection program.

Matrice 350 RTK: when the payload is the point

The DJI Matrice 350 RTK is a flying platform rather than a camera. Its value is in what you attach: the Zenmuse H30T for long-range thermal and zoom, the L2 for LiDAR mapping under vegetation, the P1 for photogrammetry, or third-party gas detectors and multispectral sensors. Fifty-five minutes of flight, hot-swappable batteries and dual-operator control suit long survey lines and complex incident scenes. Budget for payloads: an H30T or L2 adds a significant amount to the aircraft price shown above, so we quote the complete system.

    And the Matrice 400?

The DJI Matrice 400 extends the M350 concept with 59-minute endurance, a 6 kg payload capacity, LiDAR and mmWave obstacle sensing and support for multiple simultaneous payloads. If you plan to carry an L2 plus an H30T, deliver small cargo, or run relay operations in mountainous terrain, step up to the M400. Dealer pricing starts at $7,980 for the Worry-Free Plus Combo.

    Decision guide

    • Utilities, roofing, solar, first thermal drone: Matrice 4T.
    • Harsh climate, dock automation, extreme zoom: Matrice 30T.
    • LiDAR, photogrammetry, specialised sensors: Matrice 350 RTK with the right Zenmuse.
    • Multi-payload, heavy lift, longest endurance: Matrice 400.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Matrice 4T thermal camera radiometric?

Yes. The Matrice 4T's 640×512 thermal sensor is radiometric, so each pixel stores a temperature value and you can measure spots and areas in post-processing. It also has a laser rangefinder and NIR auxiliary light.

    Why would I choose a Matrice 350 RTK over a Matrice 4T?

Payload flexibility and endurance. The M350 RTK accepts interchangeable Zenmuse payloads (H30T, L2 LiDAR, P1, third-party gas and multispectral sensors), flies up to 55 minutes and carries up to 2.7 kg. The M4T has an excellent but fixed camera.

    What does 'Worry-Free Combo' mean?

DJI's Worry-Free Basic and Plus Combos bundle the aircraft with DJI Care Enterprise (Basic or Plus) for accidental-damage coverage. Plus adds more replacements and typically extra batteries or accessories.

Are these drones still FCC-authorized for US sale?

As of September 2026 the Matrice 4T, 30T, 350 RTK and 400 all hold FCC authorization. The FCC has proposed a prohibition on sales of certain thermal-equipped models but no order has been issued; see our FCC status guide.
